CQ, CQ…
Is this thing
on?
Welcome to Robert's corner of the airwaves. Where the coffee is strong, the conversations travel far, and “just one more antenna” sounds perfectly reasonable.

A small room.
A very big hobby.
There's something wonderful about turning a dial and finding another person on the other side of the planet. There's also something wonderful about a chair you don't have to leave.
Icom IC-7300
The centerpiece of the shack: a radio, a tuning dial, and plenty of reasons to put off whatever else needed doing.
A sense of humor.
Some days the bands cooperate. Some days the most reliable contact is the one on the coffee maker.
HOUSE + TOWER / ILLUSTRATEDThe lawn ornament
has range.
Some people put a birdbath in the yard. A ham looks at the same space and starts thinking about antennas.
MFJ-2386
Top-mounted HF antenna, about 25 feet above ground.
UHF
Diamond X50A
The dual-band vertical covers VHF and UHF. Because one part of the spectrum is never enough.
Weather station
Side-mounted around 15 feet. Keeping an eye on the weather while the antennas keep an ear on the world.
The tower carries the HF and dual-band antennas, with the weather station mounted alongside.
Radio with a little character.
A tour in illustrations: the operator, the desk, and the house with its decidedly enthusiastic skyline.
The man behind the mic
Robert + radio + coffee. A fine combination.
Mission control
Organized chaos, with a tuning knob.
The vertical ambition
A little closer to the ionosphere.
These are custom illustrations, not photographs of the actual house or shack.
Heard me on the air?
Say hello.
QSL questions, antenna talk, or a good radio story — send a note.
No signal report required. A good joke is always welcome.
